这个岛的名字来自“岸”这个字，意思是沙丘 ，因为在岛的周围有许多沙丘，帕岸岛是泰国国王喜欢来此休闲的地方，国王拉玛五世就来过帕岸岛 14 次
因地形的关系，岛上居民因此沿着海岸定居，而内部的山是无法进入的，岛上超过一半的面积是国家公园，而且岛上有丰富的雨林多过80平方公里，其中有各种植物和动物，此外，还被认为是一个神圣的地方，环岛有许多佛教寺庙，水疗企业和冥想练习正在蓬勃发展。
