3Rs Waste Disposal

Santhiya places great importance on the environment. One of the things that we are very focused on is “3Rs waste disposal” (3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle). We aim to reduce the amount of new waste generated and increase the efficiency of waste management through the following ways:

“Reduce” is to reduce consumption by using it sparingly.

• Reduce the use of garbage bags.
• Save water and electricity.
• Reduce the printing of documents. There is a password policy for copiers to limit their access.
• There are umbrellas in every guest room, to reduce the use of rainwear.
• There is a traditional Thai bag in every guest room to borrow, in order to reduce the use of plastic bags.

 “Reuse” is for maximizing the benefit of use.

• Use both sides of paper sheets.
• Reuse plastic bags and sacks instead of garden waste bags.
• In the kitchen, the foam boxes are cleaned before being reused.
• Use unused wooden boards from construction sites to make signs, fences, etc.

“Recycle” is to separate waste to process new products and reuse them. Waste is separated into 3 types:

1. Organic Waste such as food scraps, leaves and things that can be decomposed.
2. General Waste such as plastic bags, drinking straws, foam boxes, tissue paper, etc.
3. Recycle Waste such as plastics, glass bottles, aluminum cans, paper crates, coffee cups (thick type), etc.
4. Hazardous Waste such as light bulbs, batteries, aerosol cans, etc.

Our resort has taken measures to recycle waste as exampled below:

• Bring old clothes such as bed covers to wash and clean, before turn them into hand towels to reduce the use of tissue paper.
• Sell glass bottles, plastic bottles, aluminum, paper crates and copper from sorted wires to an antique shop to be passed on to the factory for processing into recycled products.
